The INFORM Consumers Act
Merch sales will be disabled if a seller on Bandcamp has failed to comply with required federal regulations, such as the INFORM Consumers Act. This law requires marketplaces like Bandcamp to collect and verify certain identity and contact information for sellers who earn $5,000 USD or more from at least 200 distinct sales of tangible consumer products. You can read more about these requirements in our INFORM Consumers Act article.
In order to comply with the Inform Act legislation, there are three steps you must complete to have your merch sales re-enabled:
- Contact Information Head to your Profile section and find the Legal Compliance Section. Complete the form that links out from the 'add seller information' text. You will be redirected to a secure third-party service Bandcamp uses to gather the information we need to confirm your contact information.
- Bank verification Select 'add bank information' from your Profile section- you will be redirected to Plaid, a secure third-party service Bandcamp uses to obtain consent to access and verify your bank account. Please note, we will not be storing this data, nor will we use it for any purposes outside of those relevant to complying with the Inform Act. If this process doesn't work, please contact us with details of your location and bank name.
- KYC (Know your Customer) Verification Soon after completing step 1, check the email inbox associated with your PayPal account. There should be an email from taxclientsupport-bandcamp@taxidentity.com asking you to provide your ID via a secure upload. If you can't access your PayPal email or still don't see the message, please let us know.
Once you have submitted your information, you are in compliance. However, it may take a few days for the information to be verified, so please keep an eye on your PayPal inbox in case additional steps are needed.
Once all of these steps are completed, and all sections in the 'legal compliance' section of your profile page are showing as verified (in green), you are all set, and sales will be restored on your account. If the banner alert is still showing 24 hours after being listed as verified, please contact support.
Poor merch fulfillment
When we receive numerous reports of issues with merch fulfillment, Bandcamp will take action and disable sales on your page. We do not take this decision lightly and will have attempted to contact you prior to taking action. Please respond to any previous messages sent by us or contact our Support team to discuss options.
