If you're hosting a Q&A, interviewing guests, or are a comedian performing at the cutting edge, you may want to stream to Bandcamp Live directly from a Zoom call.
It is possible to stream on Bandcamp from Zoom, as long as the Zoom host has a Pro, Business, Education, or Enterprise account. You can find information on how to enable Live streaming of Zoom meetings here. Enable the "Allow live streaming the meetings" option and tick "Custom Live Streaming Service". You will find this option in your settings page if your Zoom account supports it.
Once you have enabled live streaming meetings on Zoom, you can set up a live stream on Bandcamp. When you reach the "Test stream & publish" tab in the Bandcamp Live stream editor, you'll see your RTMP URL and Stream key:
Create a new Zoom meeting and save the details somewhere, as it's best if you use the same meeting throughout testing and going live. Once you have started your Zoom meeting, you will need to click "More" and select "Live on Custom Live Streaming Service". If this is not visible, you have not enabled live streaming on your Zoom account as outlined above.
Click on "Live on Custom Live Streaming Service" and you will be presented with a browser window. Enter your Bandcamp RTMP URL and Stream Key, and enter your Bandcamp artist site URL under "Live streaming page URL":
Click "Go Live!" and you should see an indicator in the top left corner of Zoom explaining that you are live. Don't worry - though you're streaming from Zoom to Bandcamp, you are not yet streaming to anyone on Bandcamp, so only you (and others on the Zoom call) can see this stream.
Going Live on Bandcamp
Once you have published your event and show-time arrives, ensure that you are connected via Zoom. To do this, head to Zoom, go to "More" and select "Live on Custom Live Streaming Service". If you are not using the same meeting you tested with, you may need to re-enter the RTMP URL, Stream Key and Bandcamp artist site URL before pressing "Go Live!" in the Zoom window.
Once you see that you're connected to Bandcamp, hit the "Go live" button on Bandcamp and your fans will be able to see your content. Note that there's a short (roughly 10 second) delay between Zoom and Bandcamp.
To end your show, end the Zoom meeting before clicking "End live stream" in Bandcamp.
Improving Audio Quality
By default, Zoom optimises audio for speech. In order to achieve the best audio quality for streaming music, ensure that you enable "Original Sound", with "High-fidelity music mode" and "Stereo audio" selected:
Within the meeting, you will then see an option to toggle between "Original Sound: On" and "Original Sound: Off". Ensure that it is switched on when performing.
