We know how important it is for your music to be discovered by your fans. By adding the correct tags to your music and merch releases, fans can more easily stumble upon your music through our Search as well as Bandcamp’s Discover tool.
Where to add them
Tags are generated from several places, and you can edit them all:
First, select your top genre from our pre-existing list.
You can then add additional genre tags or create your own custom tags. Simply type in your desired tag in the 'Tags' field. Genre/Genre tags on your profile page will automatically be added to your tracks and albums - so make sure to get these ones as close as possible!
Pro tip: To increase your chances of being featured in Discover, use the best matching existing tag that appears in the autocomplete.
To create multi-word tags, simply type out the tags and use a comma to separate them. For example, entering the following would generate a tag for each of these phrases (original soundtrack, alabama historical society) as long as you put a comma after each.
In tagging, upper- and lowercases don't matter — our tags are not case-sensitive and will direct to the same tag page.
Optimize for Discover
When it comes to choosing tags, we recommend browsing our Discover tool for a full list of relevant genres/sub-genres. By matching the exact spelling of your genre/sub-genre, you increase your chances of being found through the Discover tool.
For instance, "Drum & Bass" is a tag that our Discover feature will locate and surface, while "DnB" is not. Using relevant tags can make your tracks more easily found by users when they search for a specific genre through the Discover page.
