We know how important it is for your music to be discovered by your fans. By using tags correctly, you help fans find your music easier through our search and Discover tools.
Where to add them
Tags are generated from several places, and you can edit them all:
- The ‘Genre’ setting on your profile page
- The genre tags on your profile page
- The location on your profile page
- The tags on an album
- The tags on a track
First, select your top genre from our pre-existing list.
You can then add additional genre tags or create your own custom tags. Simply type in your desired tag in the 'Tags' field. Pro-tip: using the best matching tag that appears in the autocomplete will make sure your music appears in already existing tag pages.
Keep in mind "Genre"/"Genre tags" on your profile page will automatically be added to your tracks and albums - so make sure to get these as close as possible!
Multi-word tags
To create multi-word tags, simply type out the tags and use a comma to separate them. For example, entering the following would generate a tag for each of these phrases (original soundtrack, alabama historical society) as long as you put a comma after each.
Case Sensitivity
In tagging, upper and lower cases don't matter — our tags are not case-sensitive and will direct to the same tag page.
Optimize for Discover
When it comes to choosing tags, we recommend browsing our Discover tool for a full list of relevant genres/sub-genres. By matching the exact spelling of your genre/sub-genre, you increase your chances of being found through the Discover tool.
For instance, "Drum & Bass" is a tag that our Discover feature will locate and surface, while "DnB" is not. Using relevant tags can make your tracks more easily found by users searching for a specific genre through the Discover page.
Not finding yourself in Discover?
Releases are sorted in the Discover system by a number of factors, including sales, downloads, page views, etc. With millions of albums and artists, we can't guarantee Discover placement for all releases, but accounts with more activity will appear higher in the results.
If you're not able to find your release in Discover, don't worry – you're still searchable by tags and location.
