If you sell the same merch on both Bandcamp and Shopify, you can use Bandcamp Sync for Shopify to simplify the management of inventory levels across the two platforms. It is a “bi-directional inventory synchronization tool”, using Shopify inventory as the source of truth, and notifying Shopify of sales on Bandcamp.
Bandcamp Sync for Shopify is available to all Pro and Label account owners.
How it works
Bandcamp Sync for Shopify connects a Bandcamp Pro or Label account with a Shopify store.
Once a Bandcamp account and a Shopify store are connected, merch Items on Bandcamp are matched with their corresponding products on Shopify via matching SKUs. You can sync all items with matching SKUs, or you can choose items for syncing individually.
When you use Bandcamp Sync for Shopify to sync a Bandcamp merch item with a product on Shopify, Bandcamp subscribes to notifications for any changes and keeps itself updated to Shopify’s level.
When a sale happens on Bandcamp, Bandcamp Sync for Shopify notifies your Shopify store of the quantity sold. Shopify recalculates the inventory level according to its rules. This new level is sent to all subscribers, Bandcamp included.
To support your shipping cost rules, inventory levels are still associated with shipping origins, if you use them. Bandcamp Sync for Shopify helps you map those shipping origins to their counterparts (“locations”) on Shopify.
Only one Bandcamp account can be associated with a given Shopify store.
Requirements
This help article assumes familiarity with selling merch on both Bandcamp and Shopify, adding and editing inventory on both platforms, and also the use of SKUs. For a brush up on this, you can check our Bandcamp Artist Guide: Intro to Merch.
In order to use Bandcamp’s Shopify App, you must have:
- A Pro or Label account on Bandcamp.
- A Shopify store
Once you’re ready, your Bandcamp account and your Shopify store will need to:
- Sell at least some of the same merch items
- Use the same SKU identifiers for shared merch items
About SKUs
Bandcamp Sync for Shopify identifies merch it can sync via SKUs. A merch item on Bandcamp and a product on Shopify with identical SKUs are assumed to be the same item. This applies to individual options like T-Shirt sizes or vinyl colors. (Shopify uses the term “variant” where Bandcamp uses “option”.)
If you are already using the same SKU system on Bandcamp and Shopify, you can proceed with installation.
If SKUs are new to you, you may want to read this article by Shopify. They’re simple to use, but you will want to approach them systematically.
To apply a SKU to a merch item on Bandcamp, edit the item in the merch editor like you normally would, scroll down to the Quantities section, and type in the SKU for that item. That SKU should match the corresponding product on Shopify.
Note that each option on Bandcamp should have its own SKU. For example, a small t-shirt should have a different SKU from the medium of same design. The small t-shirt SKU on Bandcamp should match the SKU of the corresponding small t-shirt variant on Shopify.
