Depending on what you purchased and which payment method you used, you may need to contact either Bandcamp or the seller directly to request a refund.
Here’s how to request a refund:
Digital purchases
Bandcamp will issue refunds for digital purchases that have not been downloaded and/or purchases for which you can provide a valid, verifiable reason for the refund, such as a duplicate purchase. Please note: refunds can only be issued within 180 days of the original purchase date. Just contact our support team for assistance.
If your digital purchase has audio problems, missing tracks, or another issue that may be solvable by coordinating with the seller, first get in touch with the artist or label directly to request that they re-upload the files or add the missing audio. Just click the “Contact” link on the lower right-hand side of their page.
Physical merch
If you paid for physical merch and there is a problem with your order, you'll first need to contact the artist or label directly using the ‘Contact’ link on their Bandcamp page.
If you do not hear back from an artist or label, you can contact the Bandcamp support team for assistance.
Please provide the following:
The reason you are requesting a refund.
The URL, or release title and artist name, of the item you purchased.
Your Bandcamp transaction ID and/or PayPal transaction ID, if applicable.
EU Right to Withdraw
Buyers in the European Union have the right to request a refund within 14 days of delivery. This applies only to orders placed with registered traders. For eligible purchases, you will find a button to request a refund on your order details page, which is linked from your receipt email.
You can read more about it here.
Buyer Responsibilities
If you choose to exercise your right to withdraw (eg, request a refund and/or return), you must do that within 14 days of receiving the item.
For physical items:
You must provide proof of receipt before the withdrawal can be processed.
You must cover the cost of the return, unless the selling artist or label offers to pay for return shipping.
The item must be returned in its original packaging. If the item arrives sealed, it must be returned sealed. All inserts, manuals, etc., must be included. You are responsible for ensuring that everything is packed safely and securely and arrives back to the seller in the same condition you received it.
The returned item must be in like-new condition. If the item has been used or damaged, the artist or label can deduct the depreciation from the refunded amount, even if the damage was done during return shipping.
This right to return does not extend to custom-made physical products and perishable goods, unless otherwise specified by the artist or label.
After requesting the withdrawal/return, the item must be shipped within 14 days. If that deadline is missed, the withdrawal request will be considered closed.
For digital items:
The item cannot have been downloaded.
If you do not meet these requirements, it doesn’t mean you can’t still request a cancellation or return; you’ll just need to contact the artist directly. If you don’t hear back from them, you can reach out to our Support team for assistance.
UK Right to Withdrawal
Buyers in the United Kingdom may have the right to request a refund for eligible items within 14 days of delivery. This right to return does not extend to custom-made physical products and perishable goods, unless otherwise specified by the artist or label. This withdrawal right applies only to orders placed with registered traders.
Per DSA regulations, buyers in the UK can initiate returns by sending a withdrawal form to the artist or label. Buyers are not obligated to use this form, and we encourage you to contact the artist or label directly from the ‘contact’ link on their page with the following information: item purchased, date of receipt, and request to return, as it may result in a much faster response.
Bandcamp has provided a model withdrawal form below:
How can I determine if my purchase was from a trader?
Artists and labels on Bandcamp now have the ability to define themselves as a “trader”. This means that we have verified their identity and that if you are located in the EU or UK, any physical item you buy from them can be returned within a 14-day period from the day you receive it, and that you are protected by EU/UK consumer laws in relation to this purchase. Traders will display a ‘sold by’ in their buy now dialog and have specific details about your right to return on their returns page.
Not all artists and labels on Bandcamp are registered traders, or professional sellers – sales from these pages are not eligible for the protections listed above. These sellers are still absolutely wonderful, talented artists, and you should support them nonetheless.
